Summary
Thuy has 19 years of professional experience practising in both private and inhouse sector. In particular, Thuy has 13 years of working for international law firms, including 10 years with Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP, a top tier law firm in the world, then 4 years in banking and finance industry with Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) as Vice President – Legal and Compliance Manager, and 2 years as Vice President Legal for NS BlueScope Vietnam Limited. Thuy joined Venture North Law since June 2021 as a partner.
Thuy has substantial experience in advising foreign invested companies on various corporate, commercial, ethics and compliance issues. She involved and advised notable M&A projects including the sale of Metro Cash and Carry, a leading wholesale supermarket corporation in Vietnam, and the sale of minority shares in a leading State-owned bank namely Vietcombank to Mizuho Bank, and involved in significant infrastructure projects in Vietnam such as the 1200MW coal-fired Mong Duong 2 BOT power project in Quang Ninh province. At SMBC, Thuy led the legal and compliance team to advise the bank a number of banking regulatory and compliance issues and was in charge of key financing projects of SMBC in Vietnam. At NS BlueScope Vietnam Limited, Thuy was a member of the Vietnam Country Management Team contributing to strategy, crisis and general management of the business in Vietnam and also led all legal, company secretarial and governance issues of the company.
Thuy was a co-author of IFC Corporate Governance Manual published in 2010; and other arbitration publications.
